Mô tả
1. Nguồn gốc cây gỗ hương
– Cây gỗ Hương, hay còn gọi các tên khác: Giáng Hương, Dáng Hương. Tên tiếng Anh là Padouk ( Barwood, Mbel, Barwood, Corail, Camwood ), tên khoa học gọi là: Pterocarpus macrocarpus. Là một loài cây họ Đậu, có nhiều ở vùng Đông Nam Á, đông bắc Ấn Độ, Nam Phi.
– Cây gỗ hương thuộc nhóm 1.
2.Đặc tính phân bố
– Ở Việt Nam, Gỗ Hương được gọi với nhiều tên gọi khác nhau, tùy theo đặc điểm vùng miền: hương nghệ, hương đá, hương huyết, hương đỏ, hương xoàn …Thường mọc ở độ cao 100-800m so với mực nước biển. Chúng mọc ở các tỉnh Tây Nguyên, Nam Bộ, Gia Lai, Đắk Lắk, Kon Tum, Phú Yên, Đồng Nai, Tây Ninh. Cây gỗ Hương mọc trên nhiều loại đất như đất xám, đất đỏ bazan.
3. Đặc điểm nhận biết cây gỗ hương
– Cây gỗ Hương là cây thân gỗ lớn, chiêu cao thường đạt 30-35m, đường kính có thể lên tới 100cm. Gốc cây thường có bạnh vè, vỏ cây màu xám nâu, nứt dọc sau đó bong vảy lớn. Vết vỏ cây đẽo vàng nhạt khá dày, rớm nhựa hơi đỏ.
– Lá kép hình lông chim, mọc cách dài từ 15-25cm, mang từ 7-11 lá chét. Lá chét hình trái xoan hoặc trái trứng, đầu có mũi hơi tù, đuôi gần tròn và hơi lệch, dài khoảng 5-11cm và rộng 2-5cm, mặt trên xanh bóng, lúc non phủ nhiều lông.
– Hoa tự thành chùm viên ở phần nách lá, hoa màu vàng. Hoa kích thước không đều, đài hoa có hình chuông có 5 răng. Tràng hoa có màu vàng nhạt, cánh tràng có cuống dài, phủ nhiều lông. Nhị 10 chỉ nhị hợp gốc. Bao phấn hoa đính lưng. Nhụy có cuống. Hoa có mùi thơm nhẹ.
– Quả đậu cây gỗ hương không nứt, tròn và dẹt đường kính quả từ 5-8cm, đầu nhụy cong về phía cuống quả, khi quả chín màu nâu vàng nhạt. Mép quả mỏng như cánh.
– Cây phát triển tương đối chậm, hoa nở vào tháng 1-4, mùa ra quả tháng 4-6. Rụng lá vào mùa khô.
– Cây gỗ hương là giống cây ưa sáng mọc tự nhiên phổ biến trong các khu rừng thưa, cây có tán lá rộng sống nơi có khí hậu khô, nóng. Sinh trưởng và mọc nhiều ở Việt Nam, Lào và Camphuchia thích hợp với đất đỏ bazan, chúng sống được trên đất khô nghèo dinh dưỡng. Khả năng tái sinh hạt kém, nhưng tái sinh chồi thì lại khá mạnh.
– Khi ta cầm thanh gỗ hương cảm thấy thanh gỗ rất khô và cứng cáp chắc và nặng, khi ngửi có mùi thơm đặc trưng rất dễ chịu.
– Quan sát bề mặt gỗ ta thấy có màu đỏ hoặc màu vàng, nhìn kỹ ta thấy vân gỗ hương rất đẹp có chiều sâu, tom gỗ nhỏ và mịn có nhiều dải màu sắc, thớ gỗ rất dai và dẻo.
– Một cách nữa ông cha ta thường dùng để nhận biết gỗ hương là ngâm gỗ hương vào nước vì khi ngâm, nước ngâm sẽ chuyển dần từ màu trắng sáng màu xanh nước chè.
4.Giá trị kinh tế ứng dụng cây gỗ hương
– Gỗ Hương được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong ngành nội thất, chủ yếu là được sử dụng làm bàn ghế sofa gỗ, tạc tượng, đồ thủ công mỹ nghệ cao cấp. Những nhiều nhất vẫn là đóng bàn ghế gỗ, một bộ bàn ghế gỗ hương có 6 món trở lên, tay ghế 12cm thường có giá trên dưới 80 triệu một bộ.
– Gỗ hương rất kỵ đóng giường ngủ, một số vùng miền khác còn kỵ đóng ghế ngồi nhưng quan điểm không đóng bàn ghế dần dần bị loại bỏ. Vì dân gian quan niệm ngồi hay nằm trên gỗ hương là không tốt, thực tiễn là các bạn vẫn thấy người ta đóng bàn ghế từ hương đấy thôi. Duy chỉ giường ngủ là chưa thấy ai đóng cả. Hương rất được chuộng để đóng tượng gỗ đủ mọi loại thể loại theo ý tưởng và hình dáng.
